Kelley Finishes 11th in First Run at Iowa
Newton, Iowa - Derrick Kelley hadn't raced at Iowa Speedway before Saturday night, but you wouldn't have known it from his strong run in the Alan Kulwicki Memorial Race 2 Recovery 225 presented by NAPA Auto Parts and Diamond Vogel.

Kelley finished 11th in the race, the second of four in the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Championship Series.

The Comeback Motorsports driver qualified the No. 21 NGA Hooters Pro Golf Tour Ford Fusion 23rd, and he ran as high as third while battling a tight-handling racecar at the .875-mile oval.

But Kelley said the team took too much gear out when preparing the car, which prevented a better finish.

"We took a chance, and it bit us," he said after the race.

However, on the bright side, the Comeback team worked tirelessly on pit stops and on tire management, and they'll head to Southern National Raceway Park next month with a hot rod that has hardly any damage on it from the race here.

"All in all, we're pleased," Kelley said.

About Comeback Motorsports

The name of the Comeback Motorsports team carries a lot of meaning for driver Derrick Kelley and team owner Tim Gainey. For Kelley, "comeback" is about rejuvenating a USAR Hooters Pro Cup career that's seen him collect three wins, 27 Top Five finishes and 46 Top 10s in only 116 starts. For Gainey, though, the word is even more significant. He was seriously injured in an industrial accident, which has made him a tireless supporter of making racing accessible to everyone.
